what was my 2018 really like | 2018 review

2018. What a year. For the past few years, my life has been a bit of a 'rollercoaster' with several things happening. However, this year was actually pretty decent in comparison to previous years. Of course, there were some bad moments, as no one's life is perfect -  just like Hannah Montana said, nobody's perfect. Over the past year, my life has changed a lot but I am so thankful for how much I have grown as a person and ready for 2019 has in store for me.

Sixth Form and University. In the space of a year, I took my A-levels and survived 3 years of Sixth Form (just) and cried on results day. 3 months later I packed my life away and moved to Leicester, started University, submitted my first essay which consisted of 2600 words, completed two more essays and did a presentation. Finally, I completed semester 1 and celebrated with a deliveroo from Creams, Cookie Dough with Nutella and watched Teen Wolf. On Friday, 14th, we finished University and I celebrated Christmas with my flatmates, Laura & Cassidy, and Laura's bf by watching Authur Christmas and eating a curry - a very 'us' thing to do.

At the beginning of University, I was very worried about finding friends on my course. I even started to think that I can sit alone for 3 years and it will be fine, but that hasn't happened. Thankfully I became friends with two girls on my course who are both lovely. I met them on the first day of 'introduction week' and funny story, but there was a huge group of us walking to the first 'welcome lecture' and after it, we split into groups naturally and we laugh at the fact we ended up together and kind of glad we didn't stay with some of the others.

Flatmates. A topic which will either say, 'they are my best friends' or 'i hate them and they annoy the shit out of me'. Thankfully in my case, I adore my flatmates and I cannot picture a scenario of me living with flatmates with whom I hate. It has made my University experience a lot nicer.

Friendships. I started the year with one group of friends and ended the year with another. I lost a few friends along the way and gained some new ones. The friends I lost will not be missed, they were good friends at the time but we grew apart and they just didn't make me happy anymore and I felt myself naturally moving away from them. On the other hand, the new friendships I am so very thankful for. Since being at University it has been strange not seeing certain friends that often but it has made me realise that you don't need to see or speak to someone every day for them to be your best friend. Whenever I am home I always make time for both my friends and family.

Quickly changing the topic but, I have made lots of plans for 2019 already though which I am very excited for, which includes several concerts, 1 in a city I have never been to before and another in an arena I've never been to before, possibly a holiday, my friends visiting me at uni, a flat party for my 20th and a possible trip to London at Christmas time.

Mental Health. This year has been a bit challenging, but I made it through and honestly, I am so proud of myself. I don't want to talk about this too much because I do not want to dwell on the past but I want to talk about something that I conquered, which may seem small to some people but for me, it wasn't.

I have always been a person that hates going to 'new places' alone or just doing things alone. Which back in May I learnt is actually due to Social Anxiety, and since then I have learnt how to help myself feel more comfortable in certain situations that make me feel anxious. It took me a long time to be able to go out to either Nottingham or Derby alone to go shopping and even grab a costa just because of the bus ride there. In September I booked a train to visit one of my friends at University in Leeds, and in October that actually happened. I got on the train late Friday night after University, got a train from Leicester to Sheffield and then from Sheffield to Leeds. It was my first 'long-haul' train and I was so nervous the entire way that I struggled to even listen to music at certain points of the journey. I did, in fact, make it all the way to Leeds. I had the best weekend with Frana in Leeds, even though I did cry a little in Primark. Sadly I couldn't bring myself to get on the train home Monday morning, so instead my amazing dad came and picked me up Sunday evening. Since this happened I have become a lot more comfortable on trains, it just took a little time - mainly just the train journey home from Leicester to Derby. This was such a victory for me, my family were all so proud that I had made it all the way to Leeds on my own and so was I.

Travel. Mum and I took our first solo holiday to Amsterdam and we had the best time! We spent an awful lot of the time walking, doing around 21,000 steps a day, eating pancakes and shopping. During the summer I went back to Spain with my family to celebrate my Aunt's 50th and had such an amazing holiday, apart from experiencing a terrible allergic reaction to something and having to sit half in the pool to stop the pain, but I also finished an amazing book (One of us is Lying) and watched the new season of Orange is the New Black by the side of the pool.

The end. Christmas for me was a little different this year, but just as good as always. Christmas at home in Nottingham with my mum and her side of the family, followed by Christmas no.2 in Essex with my dad and his side of the family. I ended the year on a great note, with my friends. A lot better than last year, when I was sat on a bus when the new year started. 2018 ended with me drinking, eating Chinese, singing with friends and playing games with my friends and ben's friends entire family.

Overall 2018 had some, in the words of Danielle & Brooke (from the podcast Gals on the go), highlights and lowlights. But overall I had an amazing time, it was a bit tough at certain points, for example, my a-levels and the last few weeks of semester one at uni. There was definitely a lot more highlights than lowlights.

I also just want to apologise for my lack of blogging over the last 2 months, University work got in the way and I got really ill near the end of term and just needed a holiday. I had planned to post over Christmas time but in the end, I thought I would instead start the year as I mean to go on, with a blog post. Thank you for continuing to read my blog and support it, means a lot and hopefully 2019 I will actually get better at blogging again. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and of course a Happy New Year!!

feeling more myself | life update 02

It is finally time for me to sit down and tell you all about how I have been doing the past couple of months, since my last life update back in June when I finished my A-Levels.

LIFE UPDATES:
  • I spent the majority of the summer working at my 'part-time' job at a kids holiday club. I love my job and I had so much fun going in every day of the six week holiday and then during term time as well. It was strange when I said goodbye to them as I know I will be going back in Easter.
  • I FINALLY moved into university. Now you're probably sat there thinking 'No sh*t Megan, we already know that' but honestly it has been one of my biggest achievements and I am so proud of my self for actually coming and not changing my mind at the very last minute.
  • I am now studying (BA) Criminology at De Montfort University in Leicester
  • I went to Leeds to visit one of my friends from school, as she is now studying at the University of Leeds. I went up Friday 22nd October after I finished lectures and ended up coming home on the Sunday evening because it was a little too much for me to get the train home alone (as this was my first train journey alone) - anxiety won basically. Apart from my anxiety making me an emotional mess I was so proud that I managed to make it to Leeds in the first place and had the loveliest time visiting my friend, visiting a new city and comparing out university accommodations!
  • I went home for a day on Wednesday 26th October and got to spend most of the day with my brother and my friends. I took a trip to Home Bargains and Tesco (exciting I know!) to stock up on diffusers from my room as the Christmas ones were in and they make my university room smell amazing - my room currently smells of 'gingerbread' and my bathroom smells of 'warm apple and cinnamon'.
  • For Halloween, my flat decided to host a party on Saturday 27th October and it was interesting to the say the least, but what do you expect for a university flat party!
  • I have been officially been at University for 6 weeks now (5 'teaching' weeks) and honestly, I am loving every second of it. It did take me a while to adjust and get used to things but that always happens when you go to a new place or start living somewhere new. I have finally got a routine down here (I think) and I am actually feeling more motivated to do my work as well because at first I was struggling to get my head around all the new 'content' and all the assessments I have due in December.
  • My room is starting to feel a lot more like home. In the first 2 weeks, I moved things around a lot and (I think) I have finally got everything the way I want it apart from my pin board as I am in the process of ordering some more photos and quotes to fill it up a little more.

I hope you enjoyed these little life updates about me going off to University and starting the next step of my life. I am so excited to share my university journey with you over the next 3 years, I am ready to see what the future brings.

April - July Favourites | 2018

It has been a very long time since my last favourites post, 6 months to be exact... However, I thought I would combine the last few months all into one post as I haven't mentioned a lot of these things before on my blog. This favourites post won't actually have any makeup favourites because I am boring and use the same things everyday and I plan to talk about them in an 'everyday summer makeup routine' soon. Instead, it will consist of random stuff, fashion, tv shows, films, youtube and books.

I am currently in the process of changing my blog a little, the layout of my posts, some content and the general look of it. I have found a perfect premade template to use so hopefully this month you will see a few changes!

RANDOM:

Back in May I caved and bought myself some stickers off redbubble and honestly, I have been obsessed with them ever since I have even picked out some more for me to order when payday comes. In total, I only picked out 11 and wish I picked more but I LOVE the ones I did pick.

If you do not understand them all then I will explain, they are all from tv shows apart from one which is from my favourite film, and well one is a tv show but also a movie (Marvel)  - Gilmore Girls (3), Friends, Riverdale, Teen Wolf, How I Met Your Mother. Criminal Minds, The Vampire Diaries / The Originals, Peter Pan and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (Marvel films also).

FASHION:

I hardly ever share fashion favourites on my blog but ever since my birthday in March I have been wearing the same pair of shoes non-stop. It is actually getting a bit bad now because they are all I wear, but I have changed up a little bit now the heat wave has hit because they sadly do not match my outfits - if they did I would 100% be wearing them. So they are the 'Black and White Classic Checkerboard Vans' in a size 5 - sadly my feet have not grown in the past 8 years...

TV SHOWS & FILMS:

Due to my exam's the number of tv shows I watched changed a lot, however, I did still watch lots because that is who I am and what I enjoy. I became obsessed with American Crime Story: The People vs O.J Simpson, The Big Bang Theory season 11 and Timeless season 2.

Once my exams were over I managed to watch a lot more tv shows, which consisted of Manhunt: Unambomber, Criminal Minds Season 13,  NCIS: New Orleans Season 4  and 13 Reasons Why Season 2. I am currently watching NCIS: Los Angeles from season 8 before I start binge-watching all of Orange is the New Black before the 27th July - that happens to be the day before I go on holiday so I will be able to download it for the plane and journey from the airport because it is long.

I managed to go to the cinema a lot over the past months as it was a good break from revision and a chance to hang out with a friend for a while, especially with a 2-4-1 ticket on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. Since my last post in January, I have seen Maze Runner: Death Cure, Black Panther, Love Simon, Infinity War pt1 (of course!) and Han Solo. I also watched several Netflix original movies, which included F*** The Prom, The Kissing Booth, Dude and Set it Up which were all brilliant and made me laugh a lot!

YOUTUBE:

I have been watching a lot more youtube in recent months, mainly because I watch it in the morning whilst I am getting ready for sixth form and eating breakfast. This is mainly because I like to watch other people's lives to kind of help me feel motivated for the day, whereas if I was watching a tv show I would know it wasn't real.

The first is the wonderful Grace Fit UK who does a range of videos, and I think the reason I love her is that she is at University but still manages to work out every day, run her business and upload on youtube. She is very inspiring and her videos are so interesting, I especially love watching her 'what I eat in a day' or her 'university day in the life'.

My other favourite is completely different. As you know I am obsessed with true crime and everything to do with that, and one day I decided to watch some 'true crime' videos on youtube and found Caitlin Rose and her 'Mystery / True Crime' series on her youtube channel. Catilin is also a University student who does these videos once a week as well as doing fashion and lifestyle videos. These types of videos are honestly just so fascinating to me, I once spent a day watching these in between revising - it was brilliant.

BOOKS:

I mentioned in my last post I finished my book back in May and hadn't picked up another since, well that has now changed. I had been browsing lots online and came across 'one of us is lying' and just added it to my books wishlist on Amazon thinking I would buy it for my holiday. However, I found it in Tesco, re-read the blurb and knew I had to buy it!

I started reading it on the 27th June and I sadly haven't read it a week because I have been busy (cleaning and watching tv shows) but I know I won't finish it before the 28th July so it will be coming to Spain with me. I have also started using 'good reads' which I saw Kayla (from kaylablogs) use and thought I would give it a go to track my books and my goal to read 5 books this year. Check it out what I am currently reading below:

Let's Catch-Up | Life Updates 01

It has been a long time... however I am so excited to be back and have planned so many great things for this long summer - 3 months long to be exact.  I took a little break during exam season, which ended last Thursday (14th), as it got very stressful but I am glad they are over and done with so I can start focusing on the next step in my life. University.

I wanted to catch you guys up on what has been happening in my list recently and in the process of going to University, as well as random things in my life and my summer bucket list!

LIFE UPDATES:
  • Back in November, I set off my UCAS application and if I am honest I did not expect to hear back from the Universities within a week let alone a day. I remember the exact moment when I received my first offer because it was in the middle of my Friday morning double geography lesson. I looked down at my phone to see the email and was like "no way that cannot be true" and my friends just looked at me and said, "you got an unconditional offer, that's amazing?". For weeks I didn't think it was true, I was very calm about the whole thing even when people congratulated me.
  • On the 20th of December, to be exact, my firm choice was confirmed and I was officially going to be studying Criminology at DeMontfort University starting on 1st October 2018!
  • In February, Mum and I took our first trip to Europe together - Amsterdam. We also started planning our next trips together, consisting of Rome, Paris, Barcelona and New York - but that will be to celebrate Mum's 50th.
  • I turned 19 in March!
  • Finally to recent weeks - I finished my A-levels, psychology and geography, and officially left sixth form forever! At first, it scared me a little because I have been in the same place for 8 years, I felt safe there. However, now I have a long break before my next adventure - University.
  • The day after my exams ended my friend, Rebecca, and I made a trip down the road to go and get my nail's done, do a little shopping and have some lunch. We found the cutest little 'tearoom' that was very reasonably priced and the food was amazing!! We decided to share our first freak-shake, which was a Nutella one.
  • Love Island started about 2 and half weeks ago, and we, of course, the entire UK were inside their house and on the sofa at 9pm at night tuning into itv2. I have been a little behind but I spent Thursday afternoon catching-up and honestly it is brilliant! I adore this show, however, I do not think it is as good as last year and lots of people have been saying that this is 'the worst year yet'. Honestly, I am just here for Jack and Dani (who I watched in survival of the fittest earlier in the year) and Alex who I want to find love ASAP. - if you do not watch it or aren't from the UK then you are honestly missing out.
  • I finished my book, Finding Aubrey (4/5 stars), in May and haven't really picked up another book since because I had been struggling to find time to read and hadn't found a book I really wanted to read. I have been creating many lists on Amazon full of books for me to order for my holiday, which is 5 weeks on Saturday! | buy it on amazon

  • Back in April I watched a tv show called American Crime story: The people vs O.J Simpson and became OBSESSED with everything and anything about it. I even watched a documentary about Robert Kardashian's influence on the case, it was so interesting to watch and brilliant because the tv show was based obviously based on a real-life event - Robert Kardashian was played by David Schwimmer...
  • My playlist for this month has been on 24/7 for me, helping me through m revision and putting me in a brilliant mood. It mainly consists of Shawn Mendes as he released his new album and I am OBSESSED with it - 10/10 recommend. There is also Alessia Cara's new song, which was worth the wait!

MY SUMMER BUCKET LIST:
  1. Read 3 books or maybe more.
  2. Pass my theory test - my driving has been put on hold since December 2017, so my passing my theory is my main focus currently
  3. To get another tattoo - hehe yes I got one last June but you will see it soon, maybe ...
  4. Try out yoga
  5. Eat a lot healthier
  6. Go to the gym at least 5 times a week
  7. Watch a lot of new tv shows - I created a list throughout the exam process, and it got very long but I am very excited to watch them all.
What are your plans for the summer?

If anyone else had exams, I hope they went well but now we can all relax and have a nice long summer before the next chapter in our life or maybe the same thing. Either way, I hope you all have a lovely summer and I will be back with a new post every Saturday from now on!

Photo Diary | Amsterdam, The Netherlands

As you can see from the title, I went on Holiday to Amsterdam over the first 4 days of February half term with my mum. It was a kind of early 19th birthday present (as my birthday is gradually creeping up on me, less than 2 weeks away!)

DAY ONE

We didn't have a plan on Monday, we just wanted to find our way around the city plus we had a super early flight which meant we had to be up at 4am (yawn)... We managed to walk about 8.5 miles which were pretty good, however, some of that is because we kept getting lost as everywhere looked the same!

DAY TWO

Day two was our first planned day, which started off with a walk around near us looking at the shops and taking a steady walk over to the Anne Frank Museum - our first stop. This was followed by some pancakes, which was located next to the museum!

After a bite to eat at Pancakes Amsterdam, we headed over to the Rijksmuseum which has the famous 'I Amsterdam' sign in front of is, as well as being near the Moco Museum and Vincent Van Gough Museum.

As you know I am a massive fan of John Green and his books, so of course, I had to go and visit the 'famous' TFIOS bench - where Hazel and Gus both sit in the film, aka Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. If you have seen the film they made of the book then you will understand what happened on this bench. When we found it there was a copy of the book on it (crazy I know!), so of course, we had to photos with it.

DAY THREE

Day three was the Heineken experience (where I learnt I don't like it...) followed by a canal trip to the A'DAM lookout which was all included in our tickets.

DAY FOUR

Our finally day, where we decided to head back over to visit the Vincent Van Gough Museum as we didn't have time the other day to do that and the Moco Museum.

We has decided we wanted to go back to the pancake place from Tuesday so of course we had to walk back to the bench, also to check to see if the book was still there.

(sorry for the instagram story caption, but i forgot to save the photo before adding it)
I honestly had such a wonderful holiday away (I think I definitely needed it too), by the final day we kind of knew our way around and got our bearings which was good! I would of course recommend going here to anyone as it is such a pretty place the their are some great sites to see, along with some good shops - including Primark!;) Mum and I have already decided that she wants to go to Paris so we shall have to see. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed reading / viewing all of my photos from my lil holiday.
